The 33-year-old Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain has revealed the former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh’s lines that motivated him to work harder as he received his maiden India Test call-up for the forthcoming Sri Lankan tour.
Speaking exclusively with Star Sports, Saransh has disclosed that during his recent camp at the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE), Harbhajan’s words have stuck in his mind and inspired him to work harder. Notably, Saransh is one of the spin bowlers selected alongside Ravindra Jadeja, Manav Suthar and Kuldeep Yadav for the SL tour.
“I learnt a lot from Harbhajan during the recent CoE camp. He told me not to change anything skill-wise as I have played a lot. But some of his lines motivated me a lot. He told me me one on one that to gain something, you don’t have to lose anything, you just have to do something. That line is stuck in my mind, and I work harder,” Saransh Jain said in an exclusive interview with Star Sports.
Furthermore, the 33-year-old all-rounder has also stated that he has been playing the game only for his father, who is his idol. Moreover, he has asserted that Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh are his bowling idols. He has also shared a few words on his batting skills.
“I started cricket because of my father. He is also an ex-Ranji player. I play cricket only for him, and he is my idol. When it comes to bowling, Harbhajan and Ashwin are my idols, and I have learnt a lot by looking at their bowling. I am not thinking about how it will be in Sri Lanka, but the focus is only on continuing the basics,” he added.
“I like to bat, and from my childhood, I have loved batting just like any other player. I used to work on improving my batting with my brother and father on the terrace. Irrespective of failure or success, I love tough situations while batting. I enjoy staying at the crease,” he concluded.
