On Tuesday, July 28, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Shubman Gill will lead the squad, with KL Rahul named his deputy.
Notably, Sai Sudharsan and Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the two-match series will be subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI CoE. On the other hand, Washington Sundar was not available for selection for the first Test.
The veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will make his return for the first time since January 2026. It’s worth noting that Jadeja sustained a tennis elbow injury in May and has missed cricketing action since then.
Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar and Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain, who received his maiden call-up, are part of India’s spin attack. Bumrah, if deemed fit, will lead the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar.
The two-match series commences on Saturday, August 15. While Galle will host the first Test, Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club is the venue for the second game beginning Sunday, August 23. Moreover, India will also play afour-day warm-up game in Colombo starting on Friday, August 7.
